A solid grasp of economics aids in understanding market demands, competitive landscapes, and
regulatory environments, which are critical for the successful commercialization of new
technologies. This interdisciplinary knowledge ultimately empowers electronics and
communication students to develop innovative solutions that are not only technically advanced but
also economically sustainable, fostering a more holistic approach to their engineering endeavours.
The course aims to introduce students to the foundational concepts of economics and its relevance
as a discipline in understanding human behaviour and decision-making processes. The course
helps students evaluate the impact of economic policies, such as economic planning, globalization,

Basics of Economics

What an aerospace engineer does is to optimize the available scarce resources for finding solutions of the problems in the economy and society. Engineers use their knowledge of science, mathematics, logic, economics, and appropriate experience or tacit knowledge to find suitable solutions to a problem. Knowledge of economic principles helps aerospace engineers navigate the complexities of the aerospace industry, such as market demand, competition, and regulatory environments. This understanding fosters better decision-making and strategic planning, ultimately leading to more innovative and financially viable aerospace technologies and systems.

This course is designed to introduce non-specialist students to some of the central principles of economics. The idea is that economic principles can be more readily understood if they are linked to concrete and familiar issues.
