How do firms make decisions (related to pricing, advertising, capacity planning, and
market entry) in a scenario with limited competition?
What are dominant strategies? What do firms do when they have dominated strategies?
What could the firms do when they do not have any dominant strategies?
The Course will introduce Game Theory and its applications in engineering and social sciences.
Game theory and game theoretical thinking are essential for analyzing various situations in
business, politics, and everyday life. It helps the learner to amend various situations in business
as games with strategies and payoffs. Auctions are an important application of Game
Theoretical thinking and the Nobel Prize in Economics in the year 2020 was for their
contribution to Auction theory. It also helps in analyzing large scale networks with their
interconnectedness and auctions of online advertising spaces.
The goal of the course is to introduce the
student to an emerging area called space economics
and particularly to provide her/him with the basic
theoretical and empirical inputs to evaluate
the direct and indirect benefits & Public good nature
of space program in the changing Indian
and global context. Also, the course envisages inculcating
a broader understanding of the
global context of space industry and space policy, the role
of innovations, methodological
challenges and cost benefit of space program & approaches
and future of space business,
industry and application services. Students are expected to demonstrate their
understanding of elementary economic theory,fundamental analytical skills required to observe, analyse
and to make inferences regarding the importance of space program in economic development,
and the growth of Indian space program through the changing national and international
conditions.
