This course is to develop insight on thermodynamics and fluid dynamics of high-speed flow of gases and associated effects. Simple one dimensional flow situations are analysed in the initial phase of the course. This includes isentropic flow with area change, normal shocks, adiabatic frictional flow in a constant area duct (Fanno flow), and frictionless flow in a constant area duct with heat transfer (Rayleigh flow). Students shall also develop the ability to analyse two dimensional flow conditions such as expansion, flow around aerofoils, combined effects of friction/heat transfer and area change, etc. in the latter phase of the course. Theoretical analysis, design, and computations of compressible flows in practical applications are also envisaged
